It feels like classes JUST started but by the time you already know it’s time to start thinking about your Halloween plans. Halloween is definitely an unforgettable college experience like no other. After being in school for a bit and getting back into the swing of things, this is the first major event that gets most people pumped up and excited to dress up and have a bit of fun.
Even though there is a lot of anticipation for this college holiday, there can be a few hurdles along the way. Hopefully these next few tips can help you get through them!
1. Prepare Yourself
Brace yourselves, Halloween in college is literally an ENTIRE week of just constant costume parties. It’s literally just another excuse to party nonstop. So if you do plan on joining all your friends e-v-e-r-y night of the week for Halloween, just remember you’ll probably need about 5 different costumes.

If you’re like most college students then you definitely have a lot of crap on your mind and are busy with schoolwork. To ease some stress I recommend you buy your costumes ASAP, like as soon as you know what you wanna dress up as. I personally think you should have a variety of different types of costumes. You should definitely try to go all out for at least one costume, which can be the priciest one. Another costume might be one you know you’ll look good as f*ck in, another might just be a funny one, and finally another option is doing a group costume with friends or with your significant other. Either way, have fun with it! Be creative.

Last Halloween I knew I wanted to do something different since it was my first Halloween as a college student. I decided I wanted to try something super slutty and also wanted to do a costume that I thought would be funny. That being said I was a devil, which consisted of bright red, skin-tight clothing. The other costume was a group costume which consisted of me and my 2 other girl friends. We thought it’d be hilarious to dress up as Migos, which is a famous group of 3 rappers from Atlanta. Not only did people love the creativity but we also felt reallyy good about the way our costumes turned out because it did take some planning out to do but in the end we thought it was 100% worth it.
2. Stay safe
Although Halloween or halloweekend is a super fun time, it can also be very dangerous. Just think about it, most college campuses are open campuses which basically means anyone can come and go as they please. Being Halloween and all it can just give sketchy people a leverage of being able to hide behind a costume and they can bring different props which again, you might not know whether they’re real or fake. So just be cautious.
Apparently last Halloween there was a shooting literally across the street from where my friends and I were partying. We didn’t even know until the morning after– yikes, I know. However, we were thankful we all stood together, never got separated at any point of the night, and ended back home sound and safe.

Just make sure you are never alone throughout the night and always stick to your best buds. I know for Halloween a lot of people who might not even go to your school tend to come visit their friends at your school. Even random townies will try to get in a party and they aren’t even students! So yes, it can become very sketchy very fast. But again as long as you’re with people who will care for you and you guys are all well aware of your surroundings, you should have a great night!!
3. Jeepers Creepers
So this last point goes out to all the creepy stalkers you see at parties. The level of creepiness will go from 0-100 real quick, especially since they now have a costume to hide behind of.
I honestly don’t know what it is but I think they just feel invisible with a mask or a shitload of makeup on. Like uh no, I can still tell you’re staring at me from across the room. I just think its sooo creepy having a blank mask or whatever it is just standing there looking dead at you.

In this case you might feel very uncomfortable and honestly I don’t blame you so the best choice you have is just to either move to another room or literally just give them a weird look and they will prob most likely stop– hopefully. And definitely let your friends know if someone is making you feel uncomfortable just so they’re aware of it in case if anything happens.

Wow! I have never really ventured out to party all night long because of all the horror stories that I have heard. But I do agree that any party is better when you know that you have a couple of friends who will make sure you get back home safe. My favorite part of Halloween is the dressing up bit. My best friend and I always try to get costumes that kind of complement each other…and its always fun when people actually recognize it and like it. Thank you for all the tips!

I wish you included a picture of the Migos costume, cause I KNOW you gotta have a million!!!! I think another way you could’ve taken this is by helping people prepare for the assignments they’re most definitely gonna fall behind on because of a week-long Halloween event. I think 2 and 3 were really similar but the creeps that roam around this campus are definitely creepy enough that they deserve their own safety warning. I like your blog every week and this didn’t disappoint, I just NEED to see the Migos costume…like now!

Definitely gotta be safe out here. I like how that’s one of the main issues, cuz its unfortunately scary sometimes especially on Halloween. Also, that gif of the office is literally the best thing I’ve ever seen and I feel like a fake fan for not seeing it earlier lol. Overall nice post, though lol.

As I am reading this, I am recovering from my weekend. I like how you spoke about the different type of costumes. Haha I see it all the time. One day someone is looking sexy then the next they are in a funny costume.

I wish I read this way in the beginning of October so I would’ve remembered to plan out my costumes rather than be stressed out about what to be 3 hours before a party lol. I know exactly what you’re talking about with the creepy stalkers thing; I mean, it’s a party, it’s so weird when someone’s just standing there doing nothing. Good tips!!

I love your migos costume idea I wish you put a picture up! Everything you touched on is 100% true of halloweekend! If you don’t figure out your costume way in advance then you’re probably going to be scrambling to find all the things you need for that costume which is a pain! and YES people are CREEPY at parties especially because they know tht girls are wearing less clothes than usual and because they have a costume to hide behind so it’s so so important to keep a cautious eye out! Great job Kyley!!
