Hoes Don’t Get Cold

Honestly there is nothing I hate more than having to walk to class early in the morning when its negative brick outside. And as I am walking, the more I think about how cold it is, the more i just want to punch myself in the face. So here are a few tips on how to conquer these winter treks to class.

1. Layer Up

I know some people despise getting all bundled up with multiple articles of clothing like scarves, gloves, and hats because im not a fan of having 100 layers on either. But trust me putting on a few more layers can go a long way.

Also it’s time to start wearing your big ass winter coat. Its’s not the brightest idea to still come out in just a hoodie or a light sweater. So definitely bring out your winter coat and start wearing it!

2. Cut through Buildings

This tip is especially for when it’s unbearably cold out. Most of the time when I’m walking to class I try to cut through nearby buildings and since it’s winter they’ll usually have the heat working in the building. So you’re kinda killing 2 birds with one stone– you’re making your trip shorter AND you’re not freezing to death outside. If you have time to spare then I suggest waiting a few minutes and then head back out to continue your walk to class.

3. Bring a Hot Drink

Make sure you bring along a hot beverage. It can be hot tea, hot coffee, or even hot chocolate. You can either make it yourself and put it in a travel mug or go buy it from Starbucks, Dunkin, or any coffee shop near you. Not only are your hands being warmed up but it can definitely warm you up from the inside out. Yes– it might take a bit of extra minutes from your everyday but it’s worth the wait!!

4. Get a friend to drive you

A lot of students who have their car on campus end up driving to class. I always ask my friends with cars about their schedules to see if any of them are going in the same direction as me. It’s sooo much better than having to walk to class, wait for the busses and then having to walk some more.

You can also try asking people you actually have class with and see if they would be willing to drive you as well. You can exchange a ride for a meal swipe, food, or anything they would want. Car rides with people can be fun and take your mind off of  school for a bit so I highly encourage you to ask your friends or make new friends for that reason!

Walking to class in the cold wather seriously blows and can make going to class a lot harder since all you want to do is skip class and curl up in bed–but of course we can’t always do that. Hopefully these tips will help you. Best of luck staying warm!!

  1. I actually prefer the cold over warm cause I like layering up for some reason. But yeah the cutting through buildings part I can relate to a lot. When it gets waay too cold I just enter a building to rest a little bit when I’m on my way to a class. weird thing for me is when I have a hot drink I feel like it’s more easier for me to get cold than when I drink a cold drink. It’s probably just me lol.

  2. Love the title of this post, made me laugh lol! But I definitely agree with tip #1 on layering up. It’s a pain but it’s totally worth it in order to avoid feeling too cold and/or getting sick. Tip #2 seems pretty helpful, I think I’ll try that from now on. Usually I just suffer and endure the cold but there’s a limit. Either way, the rest of the tips are great things to try out for this upcoming winter. Overall, your blog was really helpful to read all semester long and good luck with the rest of the semester!

  3. I loved this post!! Layering up def helps, it can be very annoying but in the end its so worth it. And bring a hot drink is the best especially when you’re walking in the cold. I always end up getting a hot chocolate from Dunkin’ Donuts.

  4. I love this post! I literally have my friends pick me up after class because I refuse to wait for 40 minutes in the cold for a bus. I always walk to class and the weather be destroying me. I hate wearing big puffy coats, but I definitely should start bc I look half dead when I reach my class lol. You picked some great and unique topics throughout the semester that were fun to read 🙂

  5. Honestly most of the time that I don’t want to go to class it’s not even about the class itself, it’s really just because I don’t want to walk in the freezing cold. Not gonna lie tho, these past few days haven’t even been that cold (global warming *cough cough*)

  7. This was such a good post, I see so many people out and about in like t-shirts and shorts like???/ hello it’s WINTER! Your first sentence to this post had me dying honestly, it is negative brick outside. These tips were so helpful and really great for this time of year. I thought I could make it to the end of the semester without getting my winter coat from home and man was I wrong. I had to go home like three weeks ago to get it… so so so cold! I’m gonna miss your blog and your humor! Great job!

  8. I hate the cold too! I don’t understand why people like to torture themselves by wearing shorts, t-shirts, and dresses. I have also seen a girl brag about being able to withstand the cold as she was shivering(she was wearing shorts and a sweatshirt). My solution to the cold is more layers. I usually end up wearing a thermal under all my sweater because of how cozy it makes me feel. And, if I have to wear formals I try and stick to pants instead of wearing a dress. I loved reading your post because of how relatable it is, and also because I made a 10 minute stop at dunking to get some hot coffee! Lol. Thank you for all the wonderful posts!

  9. As a winter baby, I will be the first to say: I HATE THE COLD. Y’all can’t catch me doing too much in the cold because honestly, I do not mess with it! I also need to start telling your advice because, as I don’t like coffee and drinking hot chocolate everyday will make me fat, I was around with FROZEN DRINKS in the winter. I’m not the smartest in the winter but boy does it taste good. So, I think I’m going to try my hand at drinking something warm. Any suggestions?

  10. If you’re not a fan of coffee or hot chocolate then I suggest trying hot tea, a chai tea latte, or even warm tea with milk and honey!! Tea with milk and honey is definitely one of my favs but if that doesnt work then you can also try a warm spiced coconut almond milk– so good!

  11. This is terrible but usually, the cold weather is what keeps me from going to class sometimes lol. If it’s brick outside why would I get out of my bed!!!! This reminds me of all the things my mom tells me in the winter not to forget just incase! I always forget to cut through the buildings to get where I’m going but thats such a good tip! I’m going to miss reading these each week so much, great job on your last post!
